Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo RecorderThis is a stereo digital recorder that in hands more capable than mine could produce quite-nearly professional level recordings. I bought this a few weeks ago for interview and to create rich media projects for my work as a reporter. I found that when you take the time to be careful with it, and can do some clean up in post-production, this mic/recorder combo will rival systems costing thousands more. Yes, it's built in mics are *that* good. And it's an all-in-one solution to field recording. The basic design premise is quite clever, actually. |
M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered SpeakersFor the price I can honestly say that the quality of the product is top notch. First, the packaging - TRIPLE boxed - they're already double boxed from the factory, then they are placed inside another box from Amazon - so even if there were dropped kicked, I doubt they would incur any damage. Secondly and most important - the sound quality at high volume levels. Although meant for near-field sonic quality (which they of course excel at) I use them in a classroom setting where I need to get the audio message across to high-school students. |
MINIMOOG VOYAGER Performer EditionThe Moog Minimoog Voyager Performer Edition is designed to last you a lifetime. Moog Little Phatty - Stage II Analog SynthesizerThis is the third revision of the Little Phatty, and is both a hardware upgrade - by way of the new USB port – and a software one (there's a new OS). The USB port brings MIDI functionality direct to your computer with no need for drivers, while the new OS adds an arpeggiator, tap tempo and LFO synchronisation to incoming MIDI clocks. In detail |
Pioneer DVJ-X1 DVD Scratcher Video TurntableThis product is a tank, as long as you used quality blanks (read: Verbatim or other top tier manufacturers) my 2 DVJ-X1s have worked eons better than anything else on the market. HOWEVER, unless you need BNC component outputs there is no reason for fork out the extra cash for these now that the DVJ-1000s are on the market. The 1000s also have a nicer platter and brighter display. I cannot fault this deck for anything else, they ushered in a new era of abilities for DJs and VJs alike. Scratch your favorite videos with ease. |
Korg Mini Kaoss Pad Dynamic Effect ProcessorThis is practically a Kaoss Pad at a fraction of the price. a very interesting and useful tool for adding real time special FX to any type of music. Though intended mostly for the DJ or electronic musician this can be very creative and useful any more conventional type of music! you get 100 effects and two memory locations to store your favorite Fxs and settings. |
Circuit-Bending: Build Your Own Alien InstrumentsThis is The One; the comprehensive guide to circuit bending I have been searching for since I was introduced to the art in 2003, (by a friend named Reid, oddly enough.) At the time there was nothing but a few scattered resources online. We bought an eighty dollar electrical engineering book because we were anxious to learn and advance what we were doing. If Circuit Bending: Build Your Own Alien Instruments were available then, we could have saved ourselves a lot of confusion, a lot of fried circuits (R.I.P. Lovechild 1,) and Eighty Dollars! |
